Walking and outdoor time

Walking and outdoor time

Debdale’s outdoor setting includes two large reservoirs, with licensed fishing available.

The reservoirs have a longer history than the park itself. A local water company acquired land near the site in the 1820s and began building the first reservoir. Manchester City Council purchased the company’s land in 1851, then acquired more land south of one reservoir in 1874 and 1875.

After the First World War, the area was allocated for recreation and transformed into a formal park. The reservoirs stopped serving as the city’s water supply in 1963.
